Coverage of Firefly Music 2024! It was a great event!

There's a great deal of interest in Colorado's fireflies right now. Lauri Lynnxe Murphy along with some great support orchestrated an amazing event. She hopes to make this an annual event.

Firefly Music: July 18 and 19, 2024

FMInstagram2024codes

Join us July 18 & 19th, 2024 for Firefly Music, in a livestream from the Fountain Creek Nature Center. Firefly Music utilizes code to turn Colorado’s elusive firefly flashes into sounds, which are paired with live musicians for Fountain Creek’s yearly firefly night hike. This year, we’re excited to be joined by the genius musician and philosopher Roger Green, formerly of The Czars and Porlolo, and currently a professor and author of A Transatlantic Political Theology of Psychedelic Aesthetics: Enchanted Citizens. We’re also excited that Victoria Lundy will be joining us again on theremin - Victoria has played with numerous bands since the 1990’s, and her ethereal sounds are the perfect compliment to the magic of the fireflies flashes.

We hope to turn Firefly Music into a yearly event that travels around Colorado, to help protect our native and unique firefly species! If you’d like to help out, please donate!

Jan 21, 2024 Synth Patrol: Drone Ensemble Ambient Drone Concert at the Junkyard Social Club

Video highlights from an hour long improvised ambient drone concert by the Synth Patrol: Drone Ensemble recorded live at the Rocky Mountain Synthesizer Meet on January 21st, 2024 at the Junkyard Social Club in Boulder.

This was shot on an Insta360 X3 and edited by Mark Mosher using Insta360 app and LumaFusion. The audio source is from a live board recording from the event mastered by Méchant Métrique.

To see the full 1 hour performance with two camera angles with the board recording visit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQdBo8C0ooA. There is also a copy of this audio recording on Soundcloud at https://soundcloud.com/markmosher/synth-patrol-drone-ensemble-jan-24-2024 .

ABOUT THIS PERFORMANCE
For this performance, each member of the ensemble will played note only, one at a time, to create a collective emergent ambient synth drone soundscape filled with continuous notes, tone clusters, movement, and dynamics.

This immersive popup experience was live mixed through a four speaker system with a sub and feature supporting ambient lighting effects. The mix and panning were done by the performers in real-time as a result of the ensemble actively listening and adjusting.

I will be playing Firefly Music, a collaboration between Lauri Lynnxe Murphy and Ben Coleman

Firefly Music is a project that Lauri Lynnxe Murphy first started working on over 10 years ago in grad school at The Ohio State University, watching the fireflies come out and wishing that there was a way to share them with her friends in Colorado. Little did she know (as do most Coloradans) that we have fireflies HERE, and their numbers have been growing!

Friday and Saturday (July 7 & 8) please tune in for the world premier on livestream of Firefly Music, streaming from Fountain Creek Nature Center, where the firefly flashes will be transformed into sounds, and accompanied by live musicians. You can watch from the comfort of your home! Lauri is  thankful to her collaborator, the incredible Ben Coleman, and excited to hear the collaborations with Victoria Lundy's theremin, and the incomparable Rare Byrd$ featuring Korryne Da'nell Coleman and Kheya Lenay Yeager. Firefly Music was supported by an Insite Fund grant,  RedLine Contemporary Art Center, and the The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.

Video for Drone Day 2023

I created a video for Rocky Mountain Synth Meet May 27 2023 Drone Day, part of an International Drone Day,
an annual celebration of drone, community, and experimental sounds!

Sound is multi tracked Theremin, Reaktor Molecular, in Ableton. Video was made in (of all things) Adobe Photoshop.
